Dr. Mark Goodwin, the founder of Brierwood Technical Institute, is a world-renowned FOA Master Instructor and one of the leading certification instructors in the industry. With decades of experience in fiber optic training and structured cabling, he has trained students from around the globe in various fiber technician courses.
Dr. Goodwin is celebrated for his ability to simplify complex subjects, making them accessible and enjoyable to learn. His light-hearted humor and engaging teaching style create a fun and effective learning environment.
He founded Brierwood Technical Institute with a clear mission: "We can improve people's lives, one student at a time."

Dominique McGregor's journey in fiber optics began at the young age of 13. She earned her CFOT certification by 15 and gained valuable experience working as an Associate Instructor and Technician. By 17, she was already teaching fiber optic training to engineers at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center. At 19, Dominique became the youngest FOA certified instructor in history.
Dominique has traveled globally with Brierwood, imparting her knowledge through fiber technician courses to a diverse range of students. She is particularly skilled in adaptive technique training, assisting veterans and others with physical challenges to succeed in their training.
Her teaching philosophy is simple yet profound: "If someone puts extra effort into learning, I will go the extra mile to train them."
Gregory James
Head of Product Research and Development CFOT CFOS S L T O FC Gregory began working with Fiber Optics in 2005 to provide internet and connectivity solutions to private executive homes and properties. He has decades of experience engineering, building, deploying, and managing small fiber data networks (OSP/ISP) both in the United States and internationally, as he speaks fluent Spanish. Originally a student at Brierwood, after witnessing Dr. Goodwin solve some of the most complex challenges for prominent clients, he was hooked on the field. In addition to teaching at Brierwood, he leads the product testing, research, and development side for optical products and test equipment, which includes collaborations with well-established players in the fiber optic industry. Brierwood plays a crucial role in testing, refining, and debugging products such as optical cables, connectors, fusion splicing, test equipment, and OLTs among others. The more difficult the challenge, the more innovative the Brierwood team becomes. Gregory also consults through a company called Seviar and leads a local Atlanta-based ISP, Fiber Atlanta. With a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, he specializes in Health Information Technology and Entrepreneurship Studies. In addition to his fiber optic training, he possesses numerous IT technical certifications and is a Licensed Unrestricted Low Voltage permit holder. His family has a strong history of service, including both grandfathers and great-grandfather as veterans. Outside of work, he enjoys giving back, teaching, traveling, yoga, and ballroom dancing, all of which enrich his life and support his role as a certification instructor, guiding future fiber technicians through various courses.
